By downloading, installing, or using the Makenai app or website, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
These terms apply to all users, including guests, registered account holders, and paying subscribers.
Makenai is a Japanese language learning app using spaced repetition (SRS) to help users memorise grammar, vocabulary, and kanji. The app operates offline by default; an optional account enables cloud sync across devices.
We may update, expand, or discontinue features at any time. We will make reasonable efforts to notify users of significant changes.
You may use Makenai without an account (guest mode). Creating an account requires a valid email address. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity that occurs under your account.
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. By registering, you represent that you meet this requirement.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

Some features of Makenai require a one-time purchase or subscription. All purchases are processed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play) and are subject to their respective terms and refund policies.
We do not handle payment card information directly. Subscription management and cancellation must be done through the relevant app store.
We reserve the right to change pricing at any time. Existing subscribers will not be charged a higher rate until their current billing period ends and they are notified of the change.
All content in the app — including the SRS algorithm, UI design, grammar explanations, and example sentences — is the property of Makenai or its licensors and is protected by applicable intellectual property law.
You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from any content in the service without our express written permission.
The service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any defects will be corrected.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Makenai and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of or inability to use the service, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.
Our total liability for any claim arising from these terms or the service shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.
These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with applicable law. Any disputes shall be resolved through good-faith negotiation first, and if unresolved, through binding arbitration or the courts of the applicable jurisdiction.
We may revise these terms from time to time. The effective date at the top of the page reflects when the current version was last revised. We will notify registered users of material changes by email or in-app notice. Continued use of the service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
